MIT OPEN COURSEWARE!!

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to my new blog about learning DIY BIO. I figured that if I am going to be compiling information I might as well post it for others to see. First off, I have no BIO background, I only have an intense burning enthusiasm to learn it. So my only knowledge at this point comes from devouring the New Scientist every day. If you are in the same boat, you'll find this blog useful. If your more experienced there are probably more advanced blogs for you, although we welcome your comments here.

The first order of business is for us to develop a deep and rigorous conceptual understanding of all the Micro Biology and Genetic Engineering data that is out there. Grand! Hahahaha. That won't be easy, but it will be fun. Here is a philosophical motivational speech to help you psyche yourself up for such a monumental task:

I strongly believe that it is the destiny of Nature to develop consciousness and eventually develop the awareness to understand itself and eventually responsibly shape its own future through an intelligent design rather than by billion year chance-by-chance kludgey mutations. If we for a minute accept that premise, then learning about BIO is not just fun, but the destiny of Humans and the destiny of Nature itself. We are fulfilling the final step of the evolutionary process. Nature will eventually develop the awareness the chart its own course rather than being steered by the seas of chance.

Ok, enough of the motivational philosophy stuff and onwards with the motivational learning speach. Thanks to open courseware we don't need to get in to MIT. We are already in! So imagine the prestige of sitting in those great halls (with a full scholarship!) and click on the links below! Each link contains a video class of Introduction to BIOLOGY 7.012 (real media and also mp3 format). I am halfway through. If you are a novice like me you will eat it up. Use WIKIPEDIA where you need it, and you will need it! You can find other courses here but not all of them have audio or video... http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Biology/

Ok my fellow BIO enthusiasts, go fill up your minds!
